Wendy Simmons has built a nearly 30-year career in management consulting, public relations, and marketing, helping companies of all sizes, across nearly every industry, identify and solve strategic business challenges and grow revenue. Since 2001, she has led Vendeloo Incorporated, a boutique-sized, New York City-based management consultancy for domestic and international clients she founded in 2001.
Concurrently, and for the past ten years through August 2016, she served as President and Chief Brand Officer of MOSCOT, a Vendeloo client, during which time she evolved the company from a small, local family retailer with two Manhattan-based stores selling third-party brands, into a multimillion dollar international fashion brand. She developed the domestic and international wholesale distribution network to its current size, which now includes over 1200 specialty stores in more than 60 countries, in addition to MOSCOT’s own six mono-branded retail shops, three of which are international. In addition to creating and evolving the brand, and its retail and wholesale operation, she was responsible for the creation and implementation of the company’s international and domestic marketing and public relations strategy and day-to-day implementation.
Prior to forming Vendeloo, Wendy was Founder and President of Mindstorm Communications, a highly respected public relations and marketing agency of 65 professionals and $7 million in annual revenue representing more than 75 clients, including Sony Electronics, Screaming Media, Cablevision, Silicon Graphics and Reebok, with offices in New York, San Francisco, Boston and Washington DC.
In August 2001, Golin/Harris International, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Interpublic Group of Companies, acquired Mindstorm. Wendy served as Executive Vice President at Golin/Harris’ New York City office, leading the agency’s consumer and technology business-to-business practices, and serving as strategic counselor to key clients before leaving the agency to form Vendeloo.
Prior to starting Mindstorm, Wendy served as Senior Vice President at TSI Communications, one of the nation’s largest and most respected technology PR firms, where she led both the Sony and Business-to-Business account teams, representing close to 30% of TSI’s overall revenue. During her five-year tenure at TSI, she tripled the Sony Electronics account to several million dollars per year and expanded the agency’s role to support all divisions of Sony Electronics including Sony Latin America. She also formed TSI’s Business-to-Business PR practice, and in less than three years, grew the practice to $2 million in revenue per year, working with nearly 40 companies in diverse areas of technology, both domestic and internationally.
An award-winning photographer, Wendy is an intrepid and passionate traveler who’s explored 85 countries and counting. She chronicles her adventures on her blog wendysimmons.com and The Huffington Post. Her writing has also been published in outlets such as Travel & Leisure, PopSugar, Mogul, MSN and Yahoo.
Her first book, the best-selling, “My Holiday in North Korea; The Funniest Worst Place on Earth” was published on May 3, 2016 by RosettaBooks.
She has also owned a bar in Manhattan named Belly, worked for a lobbying firm on Capitol Hill, written a Japanese-language phrase book, and taught advanced reading and math to the smart kids at a private school in Washington, D.C.
Wendy graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from George Washington University (with semesters spent in Spain and Japan) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a minor in Japanese. Her Japanese is now terrible, but her Pig Latin is excellent. She practices Muay Thai daily, and lives in a converted 1880s schoolhouse in Brooklyn.
Sara Ng is a seasoned marketing and communications executive with both international and domestic experience, specializing in traditional media relations, digital marketing and social media management, content creation and ideation, as well as global brand strategy.
Prior to joining Vendeloo, Sara served as the Public Relations and Marketing Manager at luxury eyewear brand, MOSCOT, where she helped lead global media relations; assist in the implementation of MOSCOT’s now thriving social media platforms; and provide daily marketing and brand support to international wholesale distributors of the brand, direct retail support to 1200 specialty retail shops in more than 60 countries, as well as six MOSCOT-branded retail locations worldwide.
A sometimes painter, and occasional guest writer on beauty site, Beauty Banter by Sarah Howard, Sara graduated with Distinction from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Design and a Minor in Marketing. She currently serves as the Vice Chair of Apex for Youth’s Associate Board, a New York City-based non-profit delivering opportunities to underserved Asian American youth through mentoring and educational programs.
